Domestic retrofit: understanding capabilities of micro-enterprise building practitioners

چکیده
To deliver effective domestic retrofit at scale, it is essential to understand the current and required capabilities of building practitioners working in repair, maintenance improvement (RMI) existing buildings. Capability research construction sector has previously focused on large projects, but small, particularly, micro-firms that undertake RMI form 77% workers construction, are under-researched. This gap addressed by present study contextual opportunities deploy capabilities. The analysed data from interviews (n = 27) with micro-enterprise UK’s sector. Template analysis was conducted applying an established model behaviour change: Capability, Opportunity, Motivation—Behaviour (COM-B). Under three main themes were identified: knowledge, business management individual characteristics. Opportunities, state action, market customer demand, technology diffusion, networks management. Motivation pride work, good relationships, maintaining a viable satisfaction. Practitioners continually learning problem-solving, developing trust creating positive professional relationships. Working these capabilities, experiential on-site peer-to-peer training recommended scale up capability. Towards Data-driven Building Retrofit
Due to the relatively low construction rate of new buildings in Europe, the energetic performance of the building stock can mainly be improved by retrofitting existing buildings. Current methods to derive and assess retrofit measures require either on-site inspection by an expert consultant and code based approaches, or numerical simulations using a building energy model that needs to be first ...

Micro-foundations have become an important emerging theme in strategic management. This paper addresses micro-foundations in two related ways. First, we argue that the kind of macro (or “collectivist”) explanation that is utilized in the capabilities view in strategic management ⎯ which implies a neglect of micro-foundations ⎯ is incomplete. There are no mechanisms that work solely on the macro...

متن کاملUnderstanding Dynamic Capabilities
Defining ordinary or ‘zero-level’ capabilities as those that permit a firm to ‘make a living’ in the short term, one can define dynamic capabilities as those that operate to extend, modify or create ordinary capabilities. Logically, one can then proceed to elaborate a hierarchy of higher-order capabilities. However, it is argued here that the strategic substance of capabilities involves pattern...
